Basic Hispanic food. Yummy and not expensive at all. Love their big margaritas. Not the most "authentic" but not a good meal for a good price.

More like a 2.5 rating, the food was fine. Got a chicken quesadilla that was not all buttery and greasy like they can be sometimes - so I was pleased. The service was lacking. We had a larger party, so we were placed in a back corner, in an area that did not have any air conditioner vents - so it got hot. The food came out and after waiting 5 minutes for the waitress to come by and see if we needed anything, I had to walk around the restaurant and ask another table if they were done with their hot sauce. Most of our group was halfway done eating by the time i got back.

I won't be returning here. It took about 10 minutes for my waitress to even show up to take my drink order. After that I saw her maybe once or twice after that, even though I needed a refill. After waiting 15 minutes for her to pick up the check to cash me out, I got up to find someone else to do it. The food was extremely dry and tasteless. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Muy Delicioso ! The food is fresh and well seasoned. The sides are definitely fresh and taste terrific with the main dish. The greeting and service was warm and welcoming. Our server went out of his way to ensure we were well pleased with everything. The only glitch is that my dinner partner and I had ordered the same dish though made differently with different accoutrements and our dishes were mixed up. Even with that snafu it ended up being a great meal.

Happy Hour was All day so that was a plus. Met a dude that talked my ear off but was pretty cool. Nice guy. The food, not so hot, ground beef was over overed and looked and tasked like it has been sitting in a pot the whole day. Decor was nice and its an updated look. I'd come back for drinks!

I enjoy the food every time I visit. Their portion sizes are favorable and the food is always delicious. I've been coming to this restaurant for about 12 years because I've never been disappointed. Now, in recent time I haven't been here much. Actually I've only been here once this year. This is mainly due to the fact that La Fiesta in Port Orange is just as good, and I live within walking distance. So, according to recent reviews, this place isn't what it used to be, and that may be true. I can't say. But my recent visit a couple weeks ago was indeed great! I ordered the carnitas and it was delicious. I will come back!

No bells and whistles here, but the food is out of this world good. The servers provide efficient service and don't bother you a lot. Everything on the menu is delicious. Lunch prices compared to amount of food you get can't be beat anywhere else. As authentic has you can get.

This is the worst Mexican food I've ever had. Service was horrible and the steak fajitas was actually pot roast! There were 6 of us and everyone agreed "horrible Mexican food". Also, very pricey AND they served us house $6.00 Margaritas in a Plastic cup!!!! They also did not acknowledge "Happy Hour" prices that were posted from 4-7 pm!!!!!

Best Mexican food I have had in a really long time! Tortillas are excellent. The taco salad has fresh made guacamole and lots of veggies. I would come back

Fantastic margaritas for the Wednesday special price of $1.99. Appreciate that they are not made with tons of sour mix, (which give you that acidy throat-burn so many do). Good fresh fruit juice and a decent pour. These are good margaritas at full price...amazing for $1.99. Warm chips and salsa, very good. Chicken quesadilla very good...chicken moist and nicely seasoned. Tortilla soup good and soft tacos very good as well. All in all a very reasonably priced and good quality dinner.

I have given them two shots, with a fair amount of time between visits. Both occasions have been a waste. The food was bland. The sauces are bland or just terrible. The drinks are standard. The service has been ok, but nothing is say good things about. Is say if you're in that area, thinking about Mexican food, you'd be better off at the Taco Bell down the street.

Love this place. The queso fundido is the best!

The women's bathroom had cockroaches on the floor. They have a very good deal for lunch, but the soup came with a spoon that had dried brown gunk on it. This restaurant is super dirty. The food is just okay and the service is never very good!

Good food. Good drinks. Very friendly efficient service. They have a good happy hour if you like Margaritas. The fajitas and chicken tortilla soup are excellent. They also have a good vegetarian selection! Worth a stop for sure!

Worst Mexican the meat was dry and seemed dirty inside. Avoid this place at all cost!

we were in Daytona for a few days and wanted some "Authentic" Mexican food. This was the worst Mexican food I have ever had! The waitress told me my taco would be in a soft corn tortilla, it was actually a flour tortilla. The meat in the taco tasted like hormel chili to me and the cheese enchiladas were dry! The bathroom was hot and didnt hqve any paper towels or toilet tissue. Very bad experience!

Food was good. Service was fast. Excellent value for money. Typical Mexican ambience.

This place is definitely on my short list for best Mexican food. Bottomless chips and salsa are always awesome in my book. Courteous staff and good atmosphere, and, oh yeah, the food is awesome! I love the burritos platter from here. I always get beef for the meat and the sides of refried beans and rice are always delicious. Prices are great here as well. You can't go wrong here.

Typical, non-authentic Mexican food fare. They serve margaritas, therefore they claim to be a Mexican eatery, lol. Service was slow, food was mediocre at best. Nothing to write home about. If you are looking for a way better option and less $, try Tia's on beach street.

Definitely tastes home made and authentic. Keep in mind I grew up in Al and have no earthly idea what "authentic" Mexican tastes like, however, this has a homey feel to it. The portions were not large, which I was thankful for, actually, although the meal was a bit more than I expected to pay. Great Mexican food, however i would not say it was exceptional. If in the area again I would go back if in the mood for Mexican.

Pretty standard Mexican food for Florida. The plantains from the Cuban menu were delicious, everything else was just OK.

My family lives in Ponce Inlet and we've been going to this place for years. No really, YEARS. Let me say about 4 years ago, I would have rated this place 5/5 stars. Now it's more like 3.5 or 4 stars. DO NOT GO ON A SUNDAY. They are severely understaffed and it shows. Painfully shows. You will sit and wait for a really long time for your food. It's bad. Anyway, the food itself is actually quite tasty as is their margaritas. Go on a busy night, actually, and they will wait on you faster. The servers have always been really nice and the manager seems to recognize us every other time we go. We even got a free quesadilla once while we were waiting for our entrees....and we weren't even waiting a long time either, it was just complementary. I wonder if they just messed up someone's order or what? LOL. It was kind of nice. But that was 3 years ago. I normally order enchiladas. I like the salsa because it isn't too spicy and spicy food can sometimes irritate my stomach. (It's a little bit sensitive!) I miss their entomatadas. They don't have those anymore, unfortunately! We did try La Fiesta but I didn't like it as much as Maria's. Maria's is getting kind of hit or miss though, so maybe if you'd rather not have such a hit or miss experience, try La Fiesta instead. It's just as authentic as Maria's.

Great food and great service. Thalia is my favorite server as I eat here often. I highly recommend their chimichangas. The La Dona margarita is great too - I get mine without brandy.

I have eaten here several times. Today I went for lunch. We were pretty early, so it wasn't crowded at all. I ordered the chicken flautas. It came with the soup of the day, which was pinto bean. It was tasty. Nothing out of the ordinary. The salsa was flavorful and the chips were crisp and didn't taste like they were left over from the night before. The flautas were good, but I have to say they were made with way too much dark meat, so I will probably not order them again. I am not a big fan of dark meat chicken. Most places serve all white meat. The lunch was served extremely quickly, so that was a plus. You should be in and out within your allotted time.

Vacationing in the area and went here for a birthday party. We were a large party and service was great! The strawberry daiquiris were fantastic!

I think Marias does a pretty good job. Might be a couple dollars pricier than what I'd like to spend but I enjoy it nonetheless. The shrimp tacos are tasty, as well as the chips and salsa. I'm pretty sure they make their own chips, they're addicting! Service was attentive and friendly, will continue to be a customer.

We always eat at the bar and the service is great there. Food is always nicely done and very tasty. Ask for the "Hot" salsa and you will not be disappointed. Very pleasant wait staff. They are opening a new store in Ormond Beach soon which is closer to home... can't wait!!

First of all, lemme start by sayn this isn't the 1st time I've been here. I always seem to forget why I stop coming here after 6 months or so, so I'll stop in & get a reminder. The greeting & seating is friendly. The dining room airy & bright. The floors always have food under the tables & on the booth seats. After seating, it took more than 5 mins for waitress to bring us menus then even longer to return with drinks. And the dining room was empty when we arrived. After bringing drinks & taking our order, we never seen our waitress again. We were served by 3 or 4 diff persons so apparently our waitress got lost in the kitchen? We had to ask other wait staff for drink refills, napkins & salsa. Btw... When I am in a restaurant ordering a $12 dish, I want more than 1 tiny paper napkin. This place acts like napkins are made from gold & brings 1 at a time! Lose a star for no napkins! Back to our meal. My vegetarian fajita was burned & tasted so. The onions were carmelizing. The dish was filled with onions, had 3 tiny slices of tomato, barely any green peppers or cactus & was not worth $12. My bfs meal was soggy instead of crispy & the salsa was obviously generic. I will do my level best to remember next time & drive rt on past to the next restaurant to eat.

My wife and I have eaten here several times and love the food. I especially like the ground beef chimichanga. The drinks are very over priced though. Nice staff and the owner is very friendly.

Overpriced bland plate of food that is not "Mexican". 1.5 stars, mainly for atmosphere, tricking you into a "Mexican" restaurant-feel. As a Texan, we have a nice standard for Mexican (and I'm not talking Tex-Mex) and this place probably ranks around Taco-Bell for me. The few times I've been (only complying at the request of others) the food has been bland, greasy chips, and most definitely over priced. Don't bother trying the fish tacos, unless you want to spend the night on the toilet. I agree with the reviewer Edward, especially that its probably just Cubans or Puerto Ricans cooking "Mexican" food that is not authentic.

Tasty, TASTY Mexican food. In addition to typical Mexican fare, they also feature Cuban food and some unusual house specialties. The fresh-made chips and guacamole are a great way to start the meal, and it just gets better. They are vegetarian-friendly, willing to make substitutions so you can have a great meat and/or dairy-free meal. They have a full bar which turns out a respectable mojito, and the prices are pretty reasonable. Check it out.

My wife and I love our Mexican food. Every time we come to Daytona this is one of our stops. The food is a little pricey but it is flavorful. My wife was disappointed that her food was not hot enough. The mole sauce is great. Don't get the cheese appetizer. It is overpriced and not like regular queso.

  • Misael R.

Food was pretty good. I had a fish taco and a shrimp taco. Both I would say were slightly above average. The beans and rice were also better than most. I definately did like the chips and salsa (maybe because I was craving them) I don't really eat guacamole but my wife does and she said it was really good. Pico de gallo was also pretty good. So if everything was good, how come 3 stars??? Honestly, I was turned off by the high prices and small to average portions. The service was pretty slow too. That's what made this potentially special place...nothing special. I say this as a Mexican who knows what mexican food is supposed to taste like. Not that I even walked in expecting that. What I did walk in expecting was reasonable prices and fast service. I got neither.

When we lived out in Daytona Beach, this was our "go-to" restaurant for Mexican food. So disappointed to read other people's "bad" experiences with the restaurant, but we've eaten there several times and were never disappointed. If I remember correctly, they've received several "Best Of" for Daytona Beach. The chips and salsa that they serve when you sit down is good. I have always appreciated fresh tortilla chips out of the fryer and these do not disappoint. The hubby LOVES their fajitas (that's all he ever orders when we eat Mexican) and I love their chimichangas. It's been several years since I've eaten there, but because of my positive experiences I had to write a review for it!

This was some of the worst Mexican food I have ever had. The salsa was 99% tomato sauce and was bland. I asked for hot sauce and was delivered a tomatillo based salsa that tasted like 5h1t. I found hair in my rice and my daughter found a unidentified object in her beans. Not sure if it was a bristle from a brush or a stem from the cooks weed. As part of the lunch they served us a cup of soup. It was so bad I can't even find the words, my wife said it tasted like the "water left over after washing feet". My wife had tomatoes in her taco salad that were still green. The tomato still had the core, see photo. Anyone that considers this to be good Mexican food has drunk too many margaritas. It might some Cubans trying to do Mexican with all the SoFla dishes on the menu. I don't know, you figure it out because I won't be back.

stopped in for guacamole and a margarita, disappointed by both. the cuervorita tasted like straight sour mix and the "guacamole" was just mashed avocado. making the drive to la fiesta next time.

We tried the cuban food and it was totally delish-I wanted to keep eating even after I was full. The margaritas were not good, I'll never order a drink there again. The restaurant itself is huge, with lots of parking outside & booths & tables & bar inside. Very nicely decorated.

Veg tamales + maduros! I love this place. Everytime I come home I have to go. They are very nice and the food is great. I always have fun trying to envision the building as the burger king it once was.

I went out for dinner on a Saturday night with a friend. The service was very slow, it took five minutes for us to be greeted and another five to get our drinks. After paying 8 dollars for a mojito, the leaves were broken into smithereens that got all caught in my teeth. The bartender obviously did not care about the quality of the drinks that he was serving. Our server was very friendly, but was obviously overloaded with tables. After about 30 minutes of eating bland salsa and overly greasy chips, our food arrived. And it was quite tasty. I went with the cuban fare, and was satisfied. My food could have been hotter. However, I could just not get over the mojito. Hence, three stars.

Great authentic Mexican food. The regular red salsa is bad but the salsa verde is the best I've ever had. Ask for it. They wont sell it so enjoy it while you can. The wait staff is super friendly and quick. We had our food within 11 minutes of ordering. The check and all other wait times were minimal. I had the steak burrito. The meat was well seasoned fresh and tender. The other ingredients were also fresh and not weighed down with sauces. It is a little pricey but worth it for a treat. Super tasty and great service is a hard to beat combination.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
